The term "Cold Cream" originates from the French pharmacopoeia, which defines it as a specific blend of cetyl palmitate, white beeswax, refined almond oil, benzoin tincture, borax, and rose water. Like many skincare brands, Mustela's Cold Cream is inspired by this tradition but uses its own formulation.
In most Mustela products, Cold Cream refers to a combination of water, beeswax, and nourishing oily ingredients such as oils, butters, and triglycerides.
In our Nourishing Stick specifically, the Cold Cream is a waterless blend of vegetable oils (including sunflower oil) and shea butter with beeswax. Water is intentionally left out to keep the formula stable and prevent cracking.
You may notice that beeswax or ceramides are sometimes highlighted individually in our communications — this is to draw attention to their specific roles, but they remain part of the Cold Cream as a whole.
